Think about it having your whole Genome Scanned, Stored, and Analyzed for Genetic Predispositions. Common conditions like, but not limited to, Alzheimers, Obesity, Diabetes, Colon Cancer, Crohns Disease, Lupus, Prostate Cancer, Breast Cancer, Heart Attack, Glaucoma, etc.
Now to think that a movie that came out in 1997 took this idea to a whole new level. Processes like having a designer baby, knowing the date of your death, knowing what cancer you will get, your limitations, your entire life. Could this be real?
Actually yes. Navigenics is currently collaborating with Duke Medicine and Mayo Clinic, and a handful of specialized laboratories.
In Genomewebnews: “I can confirm that we are doing lab work for 23andMe,” Eric Lindblom, LabCorp’s senior vice president for investor and media relations, told GWDN.
SO what’s the point in bringing up this Golden Idea? My point is what the consequences of knowing will be. Of course knowing your future in terms of what you may get diagnosed is a very scary idea, but my real point is what the government and most especially the insurance companies will do with this information.

Currently there are guidelines stated in Bush’s policy :Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008, Public Law No. 110-233, 122 Stat. 881 (May 21, 2008)(GINA, or the “Act”),
*prohibit improper use by health insurance and employment
* Health plans cannot influenced by genetic information
*employers cannot hire, fire, promote, or place people based on genetic information

Yea we have a law that protects us, which is good, but it doesn’t state anything about the sharing, selling, or distributing this information to third-parties, or in the worst case scenarios, people hacking into the computers, companies going bankrupt and are forced into selling their information, stupid employees leaving a laptop with hundreds if not thousands of people’s genetic information on a chair beckoning to be stolen.
Anyways, it’s not a lot of information I’m providing, but do with it what you will.
