The beauty of the American tipping system is that the customer gets to decide how much they should pay for the service they received. The even greater beauty is that when a regular customer’s tipping habits are established, the restaurant gets to give a customer exactly as much service as that customer pays for. In this woman’s case (and I’ve waited on her before) Kanpai is giving her exactly as much service as she deserves. Good for them.

As someone who has waited on Ms. Covington I have to say she is a poor tipper. However, I think refusing her service by forcing her to pay a gratuity is a little extreme. There are many businesses that are begging for customers just so they can make payroll. Ms. Covington’s money (however small the amount) is just as green and spends just the same.

Monica Covington is a selfish NASTY woman! She is always loud and disruptive everytime she eats out. It’s her way of getting her bill reduced or to not have to pay at all? She even tells her friends how to do this and eat for free!? sorry Monica but when i heard this story I just had to tell….You are an embarassment to all who know you!

I just wanted to say I can not believe Monica lied on national t.v. I have waited on her and her family for years. I have worked at Kanpai for 6 years and the Covington family has never been told 18%. It is 15%. They are normaly rude to the server and the chef. The family has never tiped accordingly except when a party of 6 or more, when gratuity was added. Otherwise their $30.00 tab and higher was $1.00 tip!! If that! So it seems to me that we at Kanpai are getting slandered!

I was the waitress who refused to wait on monica. I waited on her and her family MANY times and was never anything but nice and helpful to them. My co-workers and I have the right to refuse service to ANYONE. This is completly uncalled for. You can ask any of my regular customers I am the best waitress that works there. Never any complaints, untill now. I am dissapointied in Monica.
